Where are you taking risks?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 23, 2008:
Life IS a risky business. If I say something or write something, I risk being misunderstood. If I remain silent I am equally at risk of being misunderstood. One time I was talking to this guy and the subject of church came up. He was from eastern Europe and did not have the freedom to attend church. Now that he was in the US I wondered why he didn't exercise that right. He told me that people in this country just got to church because they think it looks good. I told him, "For every person who says, 'Oh, isn't that nice" there is an equal amount of people that say, 'Well, what a smuck - who does she think she is?' " The same goes for many other aspects of my life...here on the web, my writing, my loving, everthing. But, if you have EVER gambled, even a few bucks, on a game of chance, then you KNOW it is the RISK that gives the THRILL.

I totally relate to, “if I risk saying something, I risk being misunderstood. If I remain silent, I am equally at risk of being misunderstood.” That made me think of the expression, “You are damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't.” I had to laugh, as that could apply to the question of attending church in any part of the world, couldn't it?
